Personalities from Moldova // Oleg ARAMĂ - Romanian mathematician, doctor of mathematics, innovator and professor

Oleg ARAMĂ (1925-2018), mathematician, doctor of mathematics, innovator and professor from Bessarabia. Prominent member of the Cluj School of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory. He was born on January 1, 1925 in Tighina. He died on March 6, 2018 in Cluj-Napoca.

He attended the „Gheorghe Bariţiu” High School in Cluj and the „Matei Basarab” High School in Bucharest (1939-1943). He continued his studies at the University Pedagogical Seminar (1943-1947) and at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Sciences (1943-1948).

He began his professional activity as an assistant at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and the University of Cluj (1949-1956).

He was employed as a lecturer at the University of Cluj (1956-1959), a research mathematician at the Institute of Computing of the Romanian Academy (1959-1970), after which he worked at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca, initially as a lecturer (1970-1972), associate professor (1970-1990), professor (1990) and consulting professor (1990-2000).


He is the author of mathematical and cybernetic models in pharmacy and medicine, authoring a volume of „Applications of Mathematics in Pharmacy and Medicine” (1987).

He has also authored several scientific studies in specialized journals in the country and abroad.

He was a member of the editorial board of specialized journals: „Studii și cercări de matematică” (Cluj) (1959-1963), „Mathematica” (1959-1974), „Revue d'analyse numérique et de théorie de l'approximation” (1959-1974).

Since 2015 he is an honorary member of the „Tiberiu Popoviciu” Computing Institute in Cluj-Napoca.
