The village of Cioburciu is a well-known destination for experienced travelers – the locality is part of several tourist routes in this part of the country. In addition, the town, which according to some sources is one of the oldest in Moldova, is located on the banks of the Dniester River in the „Lower Dniester” National Park and offers amazing views. For several years, Cioburciu has attracted the attention of tourists thanks to the „Meșter Faur” guesthouse, which welcomes its guests in ecological houses, built above the water, made of reeds and loggia.
Where is it and how do you get there?
Cioburciu is located about 110 kilometers from Chisinau and about 10 kilometers from the city of Ștefan-Vodă. The journey takes almost two hours by car. And if you go by bus, you will buy a ticket for the bus going to the town from the Central Station. There are also three or four other routes that pass through the town. The ticket price is around 100 lei.
What it offers and how much it costs
„Meșter Faur” offers two ecological houses on the banks of the Dniester. They were built by the folk craftsman Pavel Țăranu from reeds and logs, at a height of six meters above the water. The rooms furnished in a traditional style have two double beds each, an outdoor terrace. The rooms are equipped with a refrigerator.
There are two outdoor dining terraces. In cool weather, guests are also offered blankets. In the guesthouse there is a barbecue area, where visitors can prepare their own food.
Also, those who come here have the opportunity to live a unique experience of kayaking on the water of the Dniester river. Guests are also offered boat rides on the river.
The accommodation price is 550 lei/person per night. Breakfast is included in the price. The guesthouse says they don't provide any other food services, so guests are encouraged to bring their own produce.
Kayaking costs 200 lei per person. The guesthouse provides two-person kayaks and the necessary protective equipment.
The boat trip on the Dniester is free.
Beautiful places to see
If you are in Cioburciu, do not miss Râpa lui Albu, a natural monument located on the southern outskirts of the village. It is interesting in that the sands and gravels here preserve rare fragments of shells of freshwater molluscs of Sarmatian age. In the lower part are many vertebrate bones of Meotian age (meaning from at least 8-5.9 million years ago). Some of these bones were transported and exhibited at the Museum of Geology "V. Vernadsky" in Moscow and at the Paleontological Museum of the University of Odessa.
The town of Ștefan Vodă is only 10 km from the village, therefore those who arrive at "Meșter Faur" are urged to visit the green Museum in the town. Here are presented 134 exhibits of bird and animal species from the "Lower Dniester" Ramsar Zone, a protected area that covers an area of 62,000 ha. The collection was formed by the taxidermist Ştefan Tudoreanu.
Also, another objective that you cannot miss is the "Purcari" Winery, which is located about 20 km from Cioburciu. It is said that the history of Purcari begins in the 18th century, when French settlers leased the lands around the place and obliged themselves to keep the vineyards in good order. Maybe that's why for a long time Purcari wines were as popular as Bordeaux or Burgundy wines. These were served at the tables of Tsar Nicholas II, King George V and Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Today it is one of the most famous wineries in Moldova.
What the locals/people who have been say
Those who have visited the guesthouse say that they found here an "oasis of peace in the closest possible proximity to the Dniester River and had a wonderful experience at this guesthouse.
"You can feel the Moldovan atmosphere in the houses with thatched roofs and traditional decor. The Dniester River is within walking distance and opens up a soothing view…”
