The culture of the Republic of Moldova

Realized in the intention of a better knowledge of our people’s lasting existence in this region, of the abundance of natural monuments and our history and civilization, the purpose of this album is to present the spiritualized panorama of the cultural phenomenon in all its manifestations - tradition, craftsmanship, folk art, modern art etc.

The idea is that a country cannot be „big” or „small”. A country can only be everlasting and grand.

The geographical area called Republic of Moldova has a fabulous course. For instance, more than 7 thousands years ago, it was the central part of the fascinating culture Cucuteni-Trypillia, that preceded Ancient Egypt and Sumerian civilizations. The shores of the Dniester 'helter older vestiges, from about 15 000 years ago, containing ideograms, which are the forerunners of writing. It was also part of the -tately Geto-Dacian Empire, this territory never being conquered by the Romans. Beginning with 14th century, when the Golden Horde got ’.ost in the steppes’ dust from which it was once born, the pruto-dnies-terean interfluve, from the mountains to the sea, became part of the Principality of Moldavia. In 1812, the Tsarist Empire took away this land, calling it Bessarabia. In 1918, Bessarabia is coming together with the other part of Moldavia in the Greater Romania. After the Soviet occupations in 1940 and 1944 and the enclavisation of the given territory. meaning the „amputation” of its Southern part, with the Danu-i»e and the old citadels from the river’s flow into the sea, and also the Northern region, with important artifacts of our national history and dture, a hard time, with unbelievable tortures for our people came: massive deportations, organized hunger, ethnic „cleansing” beyond example.

Geographically and spiritually, Republic of Moldova is part of Car-pat ho-Danubiano-Pontic region.


The Republic of Moldova state proclaimed its independence and sovereignty on 27 August 1991.
