The Cernoleuca windmill, unique in the world, will be restored

Built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the windmill located near the village of Cernoleuca, Dondușeni district, is unique in the world in terms of execution technique, which is also confirmed by international experts. A real architectural jewel that deserves to be saved and preserved to the delight of the locals, who are proud of this symbol for centuries, but also of the tourists who visit our country. A restoration plan for the architectural objective, with minimal costs, has already been drawn up by the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments, and the works could start in the spring, says the director of the institution Ion Ștefăniță. The project sketch belongs to the architect Eugen Bîzgu, and the works could be financed by the local public administration from Cernoleuca jointly with the economic agents.
"There are some missing mechanisms, all these elements are to be restored and rebuilt, so that we can enjoy the image of this Cernoleuca objective. What we intend is with small finances to do this work, we hope to get sponsorship as well. Certain discussions are already taking place with some economic agents, who would support this work ", Ion Ștefăniță told Noi.md. The authorities aim in a spirit to launch this project, with the active involvement of locals, the ultimate goal being not only the restoration of the windmill, but also accountability, educating the masses in the spirit of preserving the country's architectural heritage. "This property belongs to the inhabitants, which is also a symbol of the village, that's why we want the community to get involved. Sometimes big things are done with little money. I think we will find clay, twigs, wood locally. We will find labor here on the spot, I believe that the budget will not exceed 200 thousand lei. If we have to bring certain materials - wood from Ukraine and Romania, the budget will increase. Some beams have rotted, the mill is a little sloping, we are going to restore it as it once was ", Ștefăniță also reported. Following the expertise performed in 2016 by a specialist from Germany, it was found that the Cernoleuca mill is unique in the world, namely by the construction technique of twigs and clay, lined with planks, said Ion Ștefăniță. "There was another such mill in Latvia, but unfortunately it has not been preserved. It really is an architectural gem, it is a goal that deserves to be saved and capitalized outdoors. He is over 100 years old. The mill was included in the Register of Moldovan monuments protected by the state ". There are still three windmills left in the Republic of Moldova, one in Mileșii Mici, in an advanced state of degradation, and another two in Gagauzia, says the director of the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments.
